Fisheye February

Fisheye February

And here are my favorite pictures from Fisheye February. This was a fun little thing to do because I have not sat down and shot a roll of film in a day in a long long time.

First we have Comanche Lookout, you might remember this from a previous photo walk. I seem to have shot this while I was there. I also shot some instant film while I was there. I do not remember this. I guess that is what happens when you shoot half a roll and then forget about the camera.

This is one of the first shots I did this month. I shot this at Solado Creek Greenway. The fisheye made a perfect companion to my bike rides as I hunted for the creek. This was the only bit of water I could find.

Again, forgotten roll of film still in the camera. I shot this out at Cadillac Ranch on a final photo adventure while living in Lubbock, this roll shares many shots.

Like the one above of Allison, shot at Palo Duro Canyon. Allison always makes this face when she is annoyed at me. She is always annoyed at me. Maybe because I am always shoving a camera in her face.

My buddy Rob said this looked like castle grey skull. I feel the need to agree with him on that one.

This bridge spans San Antonio river, or one of the creeks that heads to it. This is down in Breckenridge park. A train takes kids around the park, kind of a fun thing. My nephew loved it.

My niece and sister at Kiddy park. She was being really shy and I was trying to make her giggle.

And here is my mom. She is a happy grandma, taking her grand kids to the park. She came here when she was little. She took us when we were little. And now she takes her grand kids.

What I have determined from this is that I enjoy shooting film on outings, however I do not always go through a roll of film in a single outing and often forget about the film. Something to work on this year.

Photos from the weekend

27th February 2011, (0 Comments)

This weekend brought my sister to town with my awesome niece and nephew. So that meant that we needed to find a way to entertain them for the weekend.

Which meant a trip to Kiddie Park, a really old amusement park in San Antonio.

Honestly, the rides here haven’t changed since I was little.

My sister and niece, she looks sleepy, she had just gotten off a ride in this photo and did not know what to think.

My Dad and nephew rode a few rides together. I am surprised they let my Dad on the ride, which isn’t really designed for anyone much larger than my nephew. On this ride, the machine raises the UFO’s and helicopters up in the air. However, their vehicle never got off the ground.

Saturday night, I joined some coworkers down at the friendly spot for a beer. I had heard good things about this place and it was all confirmed.

Huge beer selection, really chill atmosphere, plus it is all outdoors. The only downside is that it is in Southtown, and you have to park 5 blocks away just to get to it.

After The Friendly Spot closed, which was midnight of all times, we headed to Lulu’s. A restaurant world famous for their Cinnamon Roll.

And here it is. This is not a Cinnamon Roll; this, weighing in at 3 pounds, is the King of Cinnamon Rolls. Between the 5 of us, I think we accomplished about a pound of it, and then surrendered.

I had to stop and get a picture of Lulu on my way out.

Sunday, I decided I needed another adventure. I was looking for another park to ride my bike in, and so I headed down to Brackenridge Park.

My first stop was the Tea Gardens, which I have to say are awesome.

I then headed into the main park to stroll around and I saw this little train. Never knew this was here.

While walking around I came upon this bird. Not sure what kind of bird it is. I am going to say it is a type of Duck, since it was near the water.

I took this shot about two feet away from the bird, so it is safe to say that even though it is wild. It is very used to humans.

I decided it was hot after this short 2 mile hike and began to head back home after this. But first I needed to make a short stop downtown. I am working on a photo project with a group of friends (more on this later) and I needed to head downtown to get a shot.

This is not the shot for the project, however I thought this building was cool and decided to shoot it for a bit anyway.

Update: Thanks to a friend of mine the duck is a Moscovy Duck.

Photos from the weekend

I should really rename this to “Photos from Sunday” since that seems to be the only day of the weekend that I do go out.

Well, first thing I did on Sunday was head on down to Pearl Brewery to walk around and see what I could find.

This eventually made me want to walk down to the river and walk along it, where I spotted some interesting mural.

I made my way down to this locking system. I have always been fascinated by it and have always thought it was really interesting looking.

On my way back to Pearl from the flood gates I walked behind Taco Land and got to see all the cool murals on the wall.

I really wish Taco Land was still in business. It looks like a really cool venue.

I then walked on down to the grotto to see what I could find there. I have never really been a fan of the grotto. I have never been a fan of the grotto, and then I spotted this.

Yeah, demon mouth entrance. For some reason this makes me think of Robert Jordan’s Shayol Ghul. The photo at the very top of the post of the face with water coming out of his mouth is also part of this grotto. All in, it makes me think Indiana Jones, which is ok by me.

I then met up with my friend Kelly and we went to the rodeo.

I milked a cow, it is not a real cow, but I milked it. We then went on a bunch of rides.

And this was an end to this weekends adventure.

Devil May Care

This is the first good shot that I have taken with The Impossible Projects Sepia Toned film.

And what a perfect model, I shot this at the toy fair I went to a few weeks back, however I left it in the camera and forgot about it.

And now I have it finally scanned in.

I think I am going to really enjoy this Holgaroid thing.

Sunflowers

14th February 2011, (2 Comments)

Once upon a time, a group of friends went driving across Lubbock county to find sunflowers to photograph.

This would be the first time I would use the instant back on a buddy of mines holga. The fish eye lens on the front end of the camera created an interesting effect, I need to find that lens.
